Dr. Rahma Mkuu is a health outcomes and chronic disease researcher at the University of Florida. Her overarching research focuses on the influence of social determinants of health on chronic disease related health behaviors globally.
In this talk, Dr. Mkuu will examine the impact of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) worldwide and their modifiable risk factors, such as tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, harmful alcohol consumption, and obesity. NCDs are responsible for over 70% of global deaths, with cardiovascular diseases leading the way. Notably, low- and middle-income countries bear a disproportionately heavy burden of NCD mortality, and Kenya is no exception.
