In 1962, Maxwell Courtney made history as the first Black student enrolled at Florida State University, paving the way for all others that followed. Since then, FSU has become a home to a more diverse and inclusive student body that continues to make great strides towards access and equity.

In commemorating the importance of 60 years of integration, FSU is excited to announce the first-ever 60th Integration Anniversary Commemorative T-Shirt Design Contest, proudly sponsored by the President’s Council on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

The theme for the contest is “The Enduring Spirit of Integration,” which recognizes the traditional symbol of 60th anniversaries, the diamond, an emblem of enduring strength. We welcome all students interested in participating to submit commemorative designs that visually represent this year’s theme by Monday, Oct. 17.  Submissions may be uploaded here.

Student votes will determine the winner at the end of the contest. The first-place design will be printed onto t-shirts and sold during the month of the celebration, with all proceeds from the sales supporting the FSU National Black Alumni Scholarship Fund. The top three finalists will also all receive a prize and have their designs displayed on campus.

Help us commemorate this significant milestone in FSU history and continue the work of the many outstanding individuals who blazed the trail for equity, diversity, and inclusion 60 years ago. We look forward to receiving your design submissions and thank you for your participation!
