Anonymous Feedback Tool for Summer 2018

This message has been approved by Dr. Sally McRorie, Provost and Executive Vice President, for distribution to all faculty and staff.
Beginning Summer 2018, we will be launching Feedback Box, an anonymous feedback tool integrated into Canvas. This tool allows students to anonymously share feedback with instructors anytime during the semester. Instructors can also ask students to use this tool to share anonymous feedback about specific course content or assignments.
How anonymous feedback helps:
- Research indicates that end-of-semester course evaluations improve after students have had the chance to give intermittent feedback to their instructors.
- Only those with the “teacher” role in a course will see the feedback. Students remain anonymous, which leads to more productive, positive submissions because students know they are writing a private message rather than a public post.
- Providing a feedback outlet for students can increase course engagement and inform ways to increase student success.
How to view feedback:
Click on the Anonymous Feedback link in the course navigation, which takes you to the feedback dashboard. All feedback is listed here, with the most recent appearing first.
On the feedback dashboard, you can:
- Respond to a student’s feedback (the student will remain anonymous).
- Report abuse (this will block the student from using the tool and should only be used when the feedback is inappropriate).
- Export all feedback to an Excel file.
- Adjust notification preferences to receive an email immediately when a student has sent feedback, or once daily. The email will contain a direct link to view feedback.
How to opt out:
If you don’t want to use Feedback Box at this time, you can opt out at the course level. The Anonymous Feedback link appears automatically on the navigation list when you launch the integration, but you can remove access in your courses by:
- Clicking on Settings
- Clicking the Navigation tab
- Dragging “Anonymous Feedback” down to hide the link
And remember – ODL Technical Support is here to help you every click of the way!
