An innovative web-based interactive training entitled Resiliency Behind the Badge: How to Understand and Manage the Impact of Exposure to Violence and Suffering While on Duty was designed to help law enforcement officers recognize the physical and mental indicators of traumatic stress. Trainees will learn calming techniques to practice managing and responding to that stress both on and off the job. Trainees will also learn to identify potential trauma symptoms in their peers and how to direct them to appropriate help when necessary. The training was developed by the Florida State University Institute for Justice Research and Development with partners at the Florida Sheriffs Association.

At the end of this training, trainees will have:

  •  A framework to understand how witnessing suffering and violence can influence an officer both at home and on the job
  • Calming techniques to use when experiencing stressful work situations and their aftereffects
  • Tips to discuss post-traumatic stress with fellow officers who may be suffering in silence
  • Strategies to distinguish when to seek professional help and how to find help that is right for you

Training type: Interactive, online, self-paced
Training cost: $149.99, For group pricing or customized training development, contact Amberly Prykhodko aprykhodko@fsu.edu
