On November 10, 2020, the Office of Faculty Development and Advancement hosted a town hall to address questions about teaching spring courses for both face-to-face and remote students. With the university’s move toward providing more in-person course offerings, the town hall was an opportunity for instructors to ask panelists questions about course planning and teaching, classroom health and safety, technology, and university support resources.

  • Panelists included Amy Polick, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, FSU Panama City, and Mark Ziegler, Teaching Professor and Director of the Bryan Hall Learning Community, both of whom taught courses that included face-to-face and remote students in the fall of 2020. They discussed many of the logistics related to teaching a flex course and fielded questions from faculty.
  • Other panelists presented on support resources being offered by the Office of Distance Learning, Center for the Advancement of Teaching, Program for Instructional Excellence, and Technology Enhanced Classrooms.
  • Director of Building Services Arnel Bacani answered questions about classroom health and safety, including classroom sanitation procedures and social distancing aids in campus classrooms.
  • Janet Kistner, Vice President for Faculty Development and Advancement, and Registrar Kim Barber provided additional guidance and information helpful for anyone teaching a course this spring that includes both face-to-face and remote students.

How to Access the Recording
Instructors can access the full recording by importing the FSU Flex Teaching Canvas Module into their spring course sites. In addition to gaining access to the town hall recording, instructors will also have a one-stop tool for flex and face-to-face course planning.
