This message has been approved by David Advent, CRE Assistant Director, for distribution to students.

You are invited to apply to the following two SCURC opportunities:

Undergraduate Research Ambassadors (URA)

First, the Undergraduate Research Ambassadors (URA) invite you to apply to become part of our team for the 2020-2021 academic year!

URA is a branch of the Student Council for Undergraduate Research and Creativity (SCURC), an SGA-affiliated Bureau dedicated to the progression and growth of undergraduate research here at Florida State.

Undergraduate Research Ambassadors will be responsible for working directly with students interested in becoming involved in research or furthering their involvement. Ambassadors will also work to strengthen partnerships with academic departments and offices across campus. Further, Ambassadors are expected to promote SCURC as a whole and exemplify general academic excellence.

You can learn more about SCURC and URA at sga.fsu.edu/scurc. If you have any questions, please email ura.fsu@gmail.com. URA applications are due August 31st, 2020

The OWL

Second, The Owl, Florida State University’s Undergraduate Research Journal, is currently seeking Associate Editors for the 2020-2021 academic year. The application is due August 31 at 11:59 pm. The Qualtrics form can be found here: https://fsu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_afqIXlbs5DZacwl. Information about The Owl can be found on our website: https://journals.flvc.org/owl/index. See below for a description of the position. If you have any questions, you may contact the Editor-in-Chief, Trystan Loustau, at thl18@my.fsu.edu.

What is The Owl?
The Owl is a part of the Student Council for Undergraduate Research and Creativity (SCURC) which is housed in the Center for Undergraduate Research and Academic Engagement (CRE). The Owl's mission is to promote undergraduate research by showcasing original student work in the publication of our annual research journal and to enhance students’ understanding of the peer-review process, an integral part of professional research sharing and distribution. The Owl publishes an issue of our peer-reviewed research journal annually in the Spring, with occasional special issues in the Fall. The Owl’s Executive Board is comprised of the Editor-in-Chief and a team of Associate Editors.

What do Associate Editors do?
Associate Editors aid the Editor-in-Chief in hosting workshops to attract student submitters and walk students through the peer-review process and writing articles for our monthly newsletter to share personal research experiences and advice or journalistic analyses of a research topic of their choice. Associate Editors, in conjunction with ad hoc reviewers, conduct blind peer-reviews of student submissions, recommend student works for acceptance or rejection and work with accepted students to help them prepare professional, publishable manuscripts. Working as an Associate Editor will allow you to enhance your research writing and editing skills, provide you with invaluable organizational leadership experience, and surround you with faculty and students who share your passion for research.

For any questions or inquiries, please contact the contacts listed in each respective opportunity.
