The Florida State University Libraries is partnering with the FSU Office of Proposal Development and the Office of Faculty Development to host the First Book Forum. This event will cater to researchers and scholars interested in turning their research into book publications. The Forum will take place on November 22nd from noon - 4:30 p.m. in the Bradley Reading Room in Strozier Library.

The First Book Forum is open to FSU faculty and graduate students who are new to publishing longform scholarship work and also experienced researchers expanding their expertise into book publishing. The program features sessions on how to turn a dissertation into a book, how to write to broader audiences, an introduction to digital publishing and an overview of textbook publishing and educational writing. It will also feature information on how to work with FSU Libraries’ publishing support services.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for those faculty members who have wanted to explore publishing,” said Beth Hodges, director, Office of Proposal Development said.  “Our hope is that this forum will provide you with information and tools to prepare you for this effort.”

By taking a cross-disciplinary approach to the presentations, the First Book Forum acknowledges different publishing demands faced by different audiences. Topics will cover publishing in the humanities field, which is more book-focused, and also those in the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), who are looking to publish outside the traditional article format.

“As faculty work to reach the broadest possible audience with their research in service of the public and the common good, book publishing becomes attractive even in traditions that rely on articles,” said Peggy Wright-Cleveland, Director of Faculty Development, Office of Faculty Development and Advancement. “We champion and value the interdisciplinary work that leads faculty to explore publishing in a new format or to a new audience.”
