Opening Nights at Florida State University presents soul-rock band Saint Paul & The Broken Bones as the 2019-20 Season Opener on Monday, September 16 at 7:30 pm in Ruby Diamond Concert Hall.

Since forming in 2012, the Alabama-based band is enjoying national attention after their debut album, Half the City, in 2014, and its follow up, Sea of Noise, in 2016 were received with much acclaim. The band’s southern roots helped shape their unique soulful R&B style found in hits like “Call Me,” and "All I Ever Wonder."

St. Paul & The Broken bones have worked hard to prove themselves no mere retro-soul band. They’ve Opened for the Rolling Stones; headlined Ryman Auditorium; made numerous TV appearances including The Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Conan, Late Night with Seth Myers and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert; and have toured the country relentlessly. They performed at The Moon here in Tallahassee in the Spring of 2017.

The band’s new album, Young Sick Camellia explores the sound of summertime funk and disco—creating a space to rival any forward-thinking band making music today. Singer Paul Janeway’s powerhouse vocals are reminiscent of the sound of Otis Redding. “Apollo” from Young Sick Camellia peaked at number three on the US Adult Alternative Chart. The newest album is centered around a concept all-too familiar: family, and how we love them despite our differences.

The band’s eight-man roster includes Paul Janeway (lead vocals), Jesse Phillips (bass and guitar), Browan Lollar (guitars), Andrew Lee (drums), Al Gamble (keyboards), Allen Branstetter (trumpet), Chad Fisher (trombone), and Amari Ansari (saxophone).
