Engage Your World on Thursday, 4/18, with Eugenie Mukeshimana, a Rwandan Genocide Survivor
This message has been approved by Dr. Cynthia Green, Director of the Center for Global Engagement, for distribution to students, faculty and staff.
Florida State University’s Center for Global Engagement will host Rwandan genocide survivor Eugenie Mukeshimana as part of its continuing Engage Your World: Intercultural Dialogue Series on Thursday, April 18, at 4:30 p.m. in The Globe Auditorium.
Mukeshimana will talk about her experiences during the Rwandan genocide in 1994. The mass slaughter, directed by members of the Hutu government against the Tutsi population, still affects survivors 25 years later. She will address those struggles and explain how education is the key to preventing such atrocities.
Mukeshimana is the founder and executive director of Genocide Survivors Support Network. The organization helps survivors rebuild their lives, and it advocates for the prevention of genocide through education.
The Center for Advancement of Human Rights is co-sponsoring this event, and the lecture is one of the activities scheduled in connection with the Center for Leadership and Social Change’s Diversity Week. A reception starts at 4:30 p.m., and the talk begins at 5 p.m.
