Data Management & Sharing Plans 101: A data management and sharing plan (DMSP) is a formal document that outlines how research data will be managed, preserved, and shared throughout the lifecycle of a project and after its completion. As federal agencies continue to strengthen expectations around research data sharing and stewardship, researchers must ensure that their DMSPs align with evolving policy requirements.
How do the latest 2026 updates to NSF and NIH guidance affect your research? What new requirements and expectations should you consider when developing a DMSP?
Join staff from the FSU Office of Research and the FSU Libraries on September 24th from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM for a workshop focused on recent changes to data management and sharing plan requirements. Research Data Management Librarian Dr. Nick Ruhs will provide an overview of DMSPs, highlight new 2026 guidance released by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and National Institutes of Health (NIH), and showcase resources available to help researchers create strong DMSPs. Whether you are preparing a new grant proposal or updating an existing plan, this session will help you navigate the latest expectations for research data management and sharing.

Hands-on DMSP Development with DMPTool and Research.gov: Whether you are preparing your first proposal or updating an existing DMSP, understanding the available planning tools can save time and strengthen your DMSP. Join staff from the FSU Office of Research and the FSU Libraries on October 1 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM for an interactive, click-along workshop featuring hands-on tutorials for DMPTool and the NSF Data Management and Sharing Plan webform in Research.gov. Participants will follow along as Research Data Management Librarian Dr. Nick Ruhs demonstrates how to create plans, navigate agency-specific templates, incorporate 2026 NSF guidance, and access institutional resources and recommended language. By the end of the session, attendees will be better prepared to draft, refine, and submit DMSPs that meet funder guidelines.
