This message has been approved by Dr. Adrienne Stephenson, Associate Dean of The Graduate School, for distribution to students and faculty.

The Graduate School is pleased to announce the return of the Three Minute Thesis (3MT™), a globally recognized research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland, Australia.

This engaging exercise helps graduate students strengthen their academic, presentation, and research communication skills while building their capacity to explain complex ideas clearly and effectively to an intelligent, non-specialist audience. In just three minutes, participants deliver a compelling oral presentation on their research and its broader significance.

The 3MT™ competition encourages students to consolidate their ideas and crystallize their research discoveries through concise, accessible communication.

Eligibility: The Spring 2026 competition is open to currently enrolled FSU graduate students (master’s and doctoral) who have completed at least 18 graduate credit hours.

Students do not need to be in a thesis- or dissertation-required program; however, presentations must showcase significant research or scholarly work completed as part of the student’s graduate program at FSU.

We will hold an Information Session on the Three Minute Thesis at noon on Wednesday Feb. 4. Register for the info session here.

Registration Deadline: February 13, 2026
