Spring Art Therapy Workshop

You are invited to join the Student Art Therapy Association for this year's annual free spring workshop 10 a.m.-5 p.m. EST on March 4. The workshop will provide an overview of trauma physiology and somatic approaches to art therapy treatment, including slow, gentle and repetitive painting movements and art as trauma centering.
Our speaker, Melissa Hedlund Nelson, Ph.D., ATR-BC, LCPC, SEP, CADC, has experience working with diverse populations, diagnoses, and treatment environments with expertise working with adolescents and adults affected by trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, panic disorder, substance abuse, and those seeking wellness. She is the past Speaker of the Assembly of Chapters for the American Art Therapy Association and past President of the Illinois Art Therapy Association. Dr. Hedlund Nelson curently practices at Linden Oaks Medical Group, is an Adjunct Professor at Mount Mary University and Teaching Assistant at the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute. Dr. Hedlund Nelson is the founder of a not-for-profit, The Light of The Heart: A community Art Therapy Project, and is the project's Board Chair. Her current research interests include: specific movement sequences in artmaking and their impact on healing, trauma's interface with the body and the relational healing of insecure and disorganized attachment styles.
