Significant Change Coming June 21 for Human Subjects Research, IRB

This message has been approved by Gary K. Ostrander, Vice President for Research, for distribution to faculty and staff.
The Office of Research is pleased to announce the launch of the second module within RAMP — the Institutional Review Board (IRB) module. This module is scheduled to go live tomorrow, June 21, 2019, and will result in an improved electronic process for the development, submission and review of human subject protocols. The new software will provide the following benefits to researchers, administrators and IRB Committee members.
- Electronic workflow routing and review, including parallel ancillary review
- Increased transparency and efficiency in the workflow process
- Designation of principal investigator proxies for development and submission of protocols
- Support for multiple study models, including single-site studies, collaborative studies and multi-site studies
- Automated reminders for milestones and when action should be taken on protocols by researchers as well as IRB Committee members
- Displays tracked changes for modifications to parent protocol and manages the audit trail for all document versions
- Simplified review process for IRB Committee
- Built in system integration with our current RAMP module (Animal Care & Use Committee) and future modules (Agreements, Grants, and Export Control)
The Human Subjects Office is prepared to support the research community during this transition. In-person and virtual training is currently offered and the session dates and times are listed on the RAMP project website in the training section. More workshops will be offered in the fall and the dates/times will be communicated once the schedule is finalized. Additionally, principal investigator resources can be obtained on the Human Subjects website, which includes training videos and recorded workshops. For RAMP help, we request that you email ramp-irb@fsu.edu for prompt assistance as we plan to track the types of questions asked to aid in our training efforts.
We are ready for researchers to take advantage of the enhanced technology available within the RAMP IRB module and look forward to hearing any feedback. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us.
