Course Proposal for The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Florida State University

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at FSU (OLLI at FSU) is designed to provide an opportunity for mature adults to continue their interests in intellectual pursuits. The program is open to all members of the community. We are now seeking faculty and community experts in their field who are interested in teaching a short course, basically a series of either three or six lectures related to a central topic. By teaching a course for OLLI at FSU, you are rewarded with participatory classes where students are always ready to interject new ideas.

This request is designed to help us locate people who would enjoy teaching an enrichment course for the program. We hold classes at the Pepper Center on the FSU Campus, at Westminster Oaks, FAMU, at TCC, and various other locations within Leon County as well as through the ZOOM platform. Daytime, evening, and Saturday courses are offered in the fall (October – mid-November), spring (mid-February – March), and summer (1st three weeks of May and through August when possible).  Each course consists of a two-hour block once a week for either three or six weeks, for a total of six or twelve lecture hours. Courses are non-credit, personal enrichment classes without tests or assigned homework. Topics range from literature, history, politics, current events, economics, science, writing, music, and much more.

Although OLLI at FSU recognizes that courses are offered in the spirit of providing a public service to enhance the intellectual growth of mature students, a stipend of $50 per hour of teaching (usually $375 or $675, which includes the time spent at the OLLI Showcase of Classes and Instructor luncheon when possible) will be awarded to each university or community instructor in appreciation of this contribution. If you would like to explore a course idea or are interested in teaching a course during the next couple years, please select this OLLI Request for Course Proposal to complete the questionnaire.

The OLLI Curriculum Team meets prior to each term to review all proposals.  If your proposal is selected, a member of the team will contact you as soon as possible to begin our scheduling process.

Proposals for Fall 2022 courses are due April 15, 2022.
