We want to celebrate all FSU International Programs alumni as we look back on 60+ years of international education at FSU! Join us during IP Alumni Week April 5th - 10th for virtual events featuring our four overseas study centers. There will be opportunities to connect with other alumni, reminisce about your time abroad, and support students embarking on their own study abroad adventures.  

The IP Alumni Week events include a talk from the new Florence study center (4/5), a look into FSU London's 50-year history (4/7), a paella cook-off and tour of Valencia (4/8), and a follow-along cooking class live from Panama (4/10). All events are at 12pm ET, except the 4/10 Panama event which is at 11am ET. We can’t wait to see you all there! Be sure to RSVP here.  

Event Descriptions:

Live from Bagnesi (4/5 @ 12pm ET): Join us for a ‘TEDx’-style talk by Dr. Alan Pascuzzi, artist and art history professor with the FSU Florence program. The talk is titled “The Personification of FSU Virtue: The Creation and Symbolism of the Bronze Sculptural Group at the New Florence Study Center.” Discover the conception, process of creation, and casting of the three life-size bronze allegorical figures based on FSU’s torches symbol. Learn how FSU’s motto ‘Vires, Artes, Mores’ has come to define the FSU Florence Program and how that has been translated in sculptural form in the style of the Italian Renaissance. Get a rare view of the evolution of how bronze sculptures are made from the initial idea sketches, small models, final works, and eventual casting in bronze. 

London at 50 (4/7 @ 12pm ET): In this event, FSU London director, Dr. Kathleen Paul, will give an engaging lecture on the history of FSU London over the past 50 years and how it has developed alongside the backdrop of a changing London. In addition to detailing the history of FSU London, Dr. Paul will comment on various changes in British culture over the years, from EU membership and Brexit to the Royal Family and Megxit. 

People, Places, and Paella of Valencia (4/8 @ 12pm ET): This cooking show-style event will feature study center staff and faculty as they compete to make the best paella. While the paella cooks, we’ll take you on a tour of Valencia, where study center staff will say hello from popular locations around the city. Then return to the study center kitchen for the reveal of the winner! A paella recipe will be shared at the end of the event for those who want to try their hand at making this traditional Valencian dish. 

In the Kitchen with Panama (4/10 @ 11am ET): In this live, follow-along cooking class, FSU Panama Director Dr. Carlos Langoni and other FSU Panama staff will instruct you on how to make a traditional Panamanian appetizer, main course, and dessert. The recipes and ingredient/supply lists will be shared ahead of time so you can gather everything you need to cook yourself a delicious Panamanian meal. Prepare to be transported to beautiful Panama – no passport required!
