International Fraud Awareness Week
This message has been approved by Undra Baldwin, Chief Audit Officer, for distribution to students, faculty and staff.
Florida State University is joining organizations around the world in observing International Fraud Awareness Week, Nov. 15-21, 2026, to promote fraud prevention, detection, and awareness across the university community.
Established by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), International Fraud Awareness Week highlights the importance of educating individuals about fraud risks and encouraging proactive measures to prevent fraud, waste, and abuse.
Fraud can occur in any organization and may take many forms, including misuse of university resources, financial misconduct, conflicts of interest, theft, and cyber-related scams. As higher education institutions continue to face evolving risks, awareness and vigilance remain essential to protecting university assets, information, and reputation.
"Fraud, waste, and abuse directly threaten FSU’s mission, resources, and institutional reputation," said Undra Baldwin, FSU’s Chief Audit Officer. "As scam tactics become more sophisticated and digital threats constantly evolve, maintaining strong internal controls and ethical choices isn't just an administrative duty; it's a shared responsibility. Safeguarding university resources requires vigilance from every faculty member, staff member, and student."
Florida State University encourages all faculty, staff, and students to learn how to recognize warning signs of fraud and to report concerns when they arise. The timely reporting of fraud can help safeguard university resources and support FSU's mission of teaching, research, and service.
Florida State University Policy 4-OP-C-13 defines fraud as “a willful or deliberate act or omission with the intention of obtaining an unauthorized benefit, service, property or something of value by deception, misrepresentation or other unethical or unlawful means.”
If you become aware of or suspect fraudulent activity, contact the Office of Audit and Advisory Services (OAAS) at (850) 644-6031, submit a report using OAAS’ online Complaint Intake Form, or anonymously through EthicsPoint. If the suspected fraud involves criminal activity, contact the FSU Police Department at (850) 644-1234.
Throughout International Fraud Awareness Week, OAAS will share information and resources to help the FSU community better understand fraud risks and ways to help prevent, detect, and report them.
