Group Treatment for Impulsive Behavior, Intense Emotions, Interpersonal Problems and Suicidal Behavior
This message has been approved by Dr. Thomas Joiner, FSU Psychology Clinic Director
Group Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is available at the Florida State University Psychology Clinic for individuals age 18+ who struggle with intense emotions/distress, interpersonal problems, impulsive behaviors, and/or suicidal or self-injurious urges or behaviors. Content is covered in four modules on a rotating basis: Core Mindfulness; Emotion Regulation; Distress Tolerance; and Interpersonal Effectiveness, including a mindfulness review between each module. Each group meets once weekly from 5:30 to 7:30pm either in person or over Zoom and there are typically multiple evenings to choose from. Groups are "closed" not "drop in", with new members added approximately every 6 to 8 weeks during the Core Mindfulness Review. Each session costs $8.
The groups are conducted by clinical psychology doctoral students who are supervised by Dr. Thomas Joiner.
