Lecture Title: "Florida Black Bear Research and Management"

Description: Dave Telesco is an Assistant Leader for the Imperiled Species Management Section of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). The section is responsible for the recovery, conservation, and management of black bears, panthers, manatees, and sea turtles. Dave worked as the FWC’s Bear Management Program Coordinator from 2008 to 2023. Before his work with the FWC, he worked for five years for the non-profit Black Bear Conservation Coalition on private landowner assistance programs and human-bear conflict management and three years earning his Master of Science degree in Wildlife Science from the University of Tennessee researching black bears in North Carolina. Dave has over 20 years of experience in the research and management of black bears with a focus on how to mitigate human-bear conflicts.

In this presentation, Dave will talk about the results of five years of research on bears in the eastern panhandle as well as other bear studies and the management of Florida black bears.
