FSU ending alumni email for life service
This message has been approved by Bobby Sprinkle, chief technology officer.
Florida State University provides multiple alumni benefits, one of which will soon be changing.
Starting in 2022, alumni will no longer have access to their FSU email account for life. Instead, alumni will be able to retain their FSU email account for one year after graduation before the account is closed. Former alumni will have their @my.fsu.edu email account closed in the summer of 2022. Once the accounts have closed, alumni will no longer be able to send or receive messages, and all emails and contacts stored in the account will be deleted.
Alumni who are not currently using their @my.fsu.edu email do not need to take any action; their @my.fsu.edu email account will be closed automatically in Summer 2022.
Alumni who are actively using their @my.fsu.edu account in the past two years will continue to have access through May 2025; however, access will end if they do not access their email account for a one-year period. Alumni should follow the recommendations in the Alumni Email Checklist prior to their account closing.
Security concerns and declining usage resulted in the decision to discontinue lifetime alumni email service at FSU. The change is a sign of the times as communication preferences shift to text and messaging apps. In addition, this change follows the trend of other national universities discontinuing alumni email service, including the University of Florida and University of Illinois.
