MLK Week Block Party

Join the six identity-based SGA Agencies as they celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. during the MLK Block Party! Students are welcomed to participate in fun activities, giveaways, free food, music, and fellowship as we honor one of the forefront leaders of the Civil Rights Movement in America.

Join us as we continue explore more than the dream at Market Wednesday through an interactive quest! Student organizations will have interactive activities at their tables like trivia wheels, and social media check-ins and more. Successful participation makes you eligible for fun prizes.

The Hate You Give Film Screening & Panel

Starr Carter is constantly switching between two worlds: the poor, mostly black, neighborhood where she lives and the rich, mostly white, prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Now, facing pressures from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what's right.
A panel discussion facilitated by distinguished faculty, alumni, and students immediately following the screening.

Dare to Dream Festival

Gather in reverence as we celebrate Dr. King’s dream and inspire others to pursue their own dreams. There will be a soundstage, musical performances by various artists, and new this year a Celebrity DJ Battle. The festival will also feature an MLK Birthday Bash for kids, food, vendors, community service project, and a historical exhibit.
Discovering the Past: A Dialogue about Tallahassee History

Tallahassee has a rich history of activism and social justice engagement from the civil rights movement to today. Join the MLK Week Celebration committee by engaging in dialogue about our local community and people who were at the forefront of creating change during the civil rights movement. This dialogue based event will engage everyone about Tallahassee’s rich history. Light refreshments will be provided.
