DIRECTO's 3rd Annual Book Club: Registration Now Open!
This message has been approved by Dr. Lisa Liseno, Assistant Dean of the Graduate School, for distribution to students, faculty and staff.
DIRECTO (The Diversity & Inclusion in Research & Teaching Organization) is excited to announce details of its 3rd annual book club, which will be held virtually this year. DIRECTO is co-partnering with the Program for Instructional Excellence (PIE) to discuss Dr. Derald Wing Sue’s Race Talk and the Conspiracy of Silence - Understanding and Facilitating Difficult Dialogues on Race. Dr. Wing Sue, an internationally renowned multicultural scholar and expert on microaggressions, is also serving as one of the keynotes during DIRECTO’s upcoming 3rd Annual Symposium on Friday, 9/18
Registration for the virtual book club is now open: https://bit.ly/REG-DIRECTO-PIE-BOOK-CLUB The first 25 people to register for all 6 book club dates are eligible to receive a complimentary paperback copy of the book. This book is also available electronically at the FSU library site: https://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/fsu/detail.action?docID=1895814).
DIRECTO’s 3rd Annual book club will be open to everyone at FSU and in the surrounding community, and held virtually via Zoom for a six-week period, where one section of the book is covered each week by a different staff or faculty facilitator.
This year these book club sessions will be held for three weeks prior to the symposium, and then for three weeks after the symposium. This will be a wonderful opportunity to familiarize our community with Dr. Wing Sue’s important and timely work, and to spend three weeks to begin formulating questions prior to the symposium, and three weeks afterwards continuing the conversation.
Dates and times:
-Three weeks prior to the 3rd Annual Fall DIRECTO Symposium on Diversity & Inclusion on Research & Teaching: Fridays (10am-noon): 8/28, 9/4, 9/11
-The symposium will be held virtually over two days this year, Thursday, 9/17, and Friday, 9/18.
-The remainder of the book club sessions will then be held the three weeks following the symposium: Fridays (10am-noon) 9/25, 10/2, and 10/9.
