Conditional Admission of International Graduate Students
This message has been approved by Patrick Kennell, director of the Center for Intensive English Studies, for distribution to faculty and staff.
If an international graduate student applies to a program and meets all the requirements except for the required level of English language proficiency, the program can offer that student Conditional Admission. Students admitted conditionally will study at the Center for Intensive English Studies (CIES) at FSU until they have the necessary English proficiency to be fully admitted into the program. This is beneficial because departments won’t lose the student to another university. The student will be on campus studying with CIES while preparing for the program. This policy has been in place at FSU since 2009, and many departments have taken advantage of it. 98% of students conditionally admitted finished their program with an average 3.5 GPA!
