2-Factor Authentication is Expanding at FSU

Are you ready for 2FA for FSU?

This fall, FSU will expand 2-factor authentication (2FA) to be used for multiple FSU systems, including the main FSU sign in page, FSU email, Canvas, Office 365 and other applications. 2FA will be released to all students, faculty, staff and alumni over the next several months.

You already may be familiar with 2FA as it is currently used to gain access to parts of myFSU HR and myFSU Student Central as well as the FSU virtual private network (VPN). Chances are you also use 2FA outside of FSU for online banking or social media. In fact, tons of accounts use 2FA for digital security.

2FA will soon add an extra layer of protection and security to all FSU accounts. It protects data from hackers, phishing attempts and other digital threats by determining someone is who they say they are, and not just someone with a stolen password.

Once activated, students, faculty and staff will need to verify their identity twice—once with their password and once with a phone, mobile device, tablet or token—before they can access essential FSU systems. FSU will be rolling out this feature in waves by department throughout Fall 2020, and students, employees and alumni will be notified via email before 2FA is activated on their account.

If you currently use 2FA at FSU, then you are good to go. If you have not set up your FSU 2FA account yet, all you need to do is download the Duo Mobile app and register one or more devices. If you do not have a mobile device, you can authenticate with a landline or you can purchase a token, a small device that generates 2FA passcodes, from the FSU Bookstore.
